Welcome to the Lee Roystone blog:
I think that I should explain "Hedge Fund Mistress." By the time John Kerry won Iowa this novel was mainly completed. There is a chapter on a character who dated a United States senator. When John won my first reaction was: What do I do now? Shelve my book? Rewrite the book? That portion of the book is crucial to the story.
It puts me in a strange situation because I do not want my personal experience with him to be twisted and I put nothing past the right wing talk show hosts - especially in such a close election (I hate Rush Limbaugh - in the book I call him "The Rash"). Anyway, I'm not really sure what to do. John may certainly read it before it goes to press for his input but, I will ultimately make the decision on what is printed.
July 24, 2004. I think I should not release "Hedge Fund Mistress" until November 2nd. Although it is a fiction novel I don't want my words twisted or my meaning misconstrued. Plus, I don't want the current political situation to affect my honesty as a writer. It is just a story meant for entertainment. I love my country and I have the greatest respect for John.
The book is a mainstream book with adult themes and I believe there would be plenty of fodder for the hate mongering right wing talk show hosts.
July 25, 2004 "Hedge Fund Mistress" is in a safe place. You may pre-order the book. I still not sure what to do. In the event something happens to me, the book is still scheduled to go out. In the meantime, order "What About the Dead?"
August 2, 2004. I have decided not to have a blog, but I wish to dispel a rumour: A journalist (who I'm not naming because he's been critical of John for years), two days ago on national TV, said that John was living on other people's couches before he married Teresa. Not accurate. I'm not saying John didn't go through rough times in his life (most people do) but by the time he met her in ’90 he had a gorgeous place on Commonwealth Avenue: A huge floor through, high ceilings, etc. In June ’91 he moved to 89 Beacon Street to a more modest place that had better parking. More modest but still lovely and still prime real estate directly across from the Public Garden and a block away from the Ritz. Homeless? Gimme a break!
Enough said.
Vote for John in November!
August 18, 2004. Gee wiz - what a commotion. Perhaps this was a bad idea. No one is even buying any books. So what is the point? Democrats and Republicans are all sending me hate mail. I concede defeat. I'm a wimp. This was a bad idea. August 19, 2004
I will be removing the John Kerry scrapbook - I just can't right now. I like it. I took off some of the controversial stuff.
I just finished weeding through 500 hate emails from Republicans and Democrats. Ouch. Also, I'm dealing with the reality that I had 16,000 hits and absolutely zero book orders. I realized that this was an experiment that did not work. Please think of this like that episode of Dallas that was all a bad dream. ...
,,,
All those nice media people who called and wanted to put me on tv. Thank you. That was kind of you but if doesn't sell books and it exposes me to universal scorn with absolutely no benefit, then what is the point?
John is the best man for the job. Vote for John!
Next morning: I just woke up to 500+ more emails. I glanced at a few and they are mainly evil. Didn't anyone think the website was interesting and informative? Gee - I guess not. Oh well I'm going to delete all the emails and have a cup of coffee. I'm also taking away the contact feature. I really don't want any more evil email. Leegate is over. Democrats: John's campaign is intact - relax. Republicans: Shut up! Face reality for all of our sake - George is awful.
Later: Wow. A++ media have called. Amazing. Thanks for your interest. If you are still interested in me or the book in November (after the election) please do call. "Hedge Fund Mistress" will be available everywhere and I will be happy to speak freely. Although there is a political angle to the story it is also an expose on the hedge fund world and hedge fund managers. Hedge fund managers are a little known group of people and many of them are enormously wealthy. Some people believe that hedge fund managers are the real people in power - worldwide. Humm, people in power without any accountability?
